"Then Naomi her mother in
law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not
seek rest for thee, that it may be well with
thee? And now is not Boaz of our kindred,
with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he
winnoweth barley to night in the threshing
floor. Wash thyself therefore, and anoint
thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get
thee down to the floor: but make not thyself
known unto the man, until he shall have done
eating and drinking. And it shall be, when
he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the
place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go
in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down;
and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
And she said unto her, All that thou sayest
unto me I will do. And she went down unto
the floor, and did according to all that her
mother in law bade her." Ruth 3: 1-6
I have
always been terribly fond of the book of
Ruth. One of my favorite passages is chapter
3 where Naomi gives Ruth instructions, and
Ruth follows them wholeheartedly, without
any questions. It amazes me the divine
relationship the two women had and how God
knit their hearts together. Ruth had what
Naomi needed, and Naomi had what Ruth needed
for such a time in their lives.
Throughout my short time
of teaching and preaching the gospel, I have
found that I have needed that kind of
mentor. I’ve needed a coach, friend or very
simply a spiritual
mother. The Lord
showed me early on who this mentor would be.
He sent me to her and gave me the right
words to say. She knew automatically that it
was a divine connection. I do not have a
biological mother--the Lord took her home
years ago. But I do have a spiritual mother
whom I love dearly and relate to as a
mother. She has pulled my dress tail when
I’ve been wrong and stroked me when I’ve
been right. She has been that confidante
that I could go to and ask questions when I
did not understand things that the Lord was
doing in my life. She is seasoned and has
been on the road a long time. I have truly
been blessed by the hand of God to have such
a one in my life for such a time as this. I
believe that every preaching woman needs a
mother.
I love you Mother.
